Three words govern our approach to preparing your favourites: Local is lekker. From our made-to-order coffee to our locally-sourced dairy, there’s always plenty to enjoy at Wimpy. We are also constantly thinking of ways to reduce, recycle, and reinvent our food packaging. That’s why we don’t just serve food, we serve food with thought.

Environment management

Eco-friendliness matters to you, which is why it matters to us. We’ve done away with the wrapper on the complementary biscuit that comes with our coffees, which is expected to reduce our plastic footprint by 4 tons a year. In 2022, we removed plastic cutlery from our restaurants. This small change will make a big difference in ensuring that we use less plastic year on year. We're excited to share that we've swapped out our plastic stirrers for eco-friendly wooden ones! This seemingly small change packs a powerful punch, cutting down a total of 20 tons of plastic waste each year.

Food safety

At Wimpy, the safety and well-being of our customers is our top priority. We’re committed to serving our customers the great tasting, high quality meals they expect from us, every time, making sure that the food we serve is always delicious and safe to eat.

The food we serve is fresh and adheres to the very highest requirements, using quality ingredients while meeting regulatory requirements and international best practice standards.

All Wimpy restaurants are required to uphold our stringent food safety standards in order to make sure we serve fresh and quality meals. Wimpy restaurants are audited to make sure that all health and safety requirements are upheld. Our suppliers are also required to adhere to our demanding food safety standards and are independently audited to make sure food safety requirements are maintained at all times.

We take complaints related to our food very seriously and strive to respond to potential health and safety issues related to the food we serve as a priority.

It’s important to us that our customers have a great experience at our restaurants and serving you a fresh, tasty and quality meal will always come first and foremost!

Special dietary requirements

We're all about making room for everyone at our table, going above and beyond to accommodate you. If you've got any dietary restrictions, food allergies, intolerances, or lifestyle preferences, just give us a heads up and we'll whip up a meal that caters to your needs.

Nutritional Info

We're all about transparency and helping you make informed choices, so we've added the kilojoule count and allergen information for each food and beverage item right on our menu. To give you even more insight, we provide a comprehensive nutritional breakdown alongside each menu item on our website. This way, you can easily pick a meal that suits your dietary preferences.

We aim to ensure that our food is sourced, produced and grown in a responsible manner, which is why all the eggs we use to make our brekkies are free range.

Sustainable packaging

We’ve launched the Wimpy Eco Cup, which is 100% compostable, biodegradable and recyclable. We’re also committed to only using paper straws and removing polystyrene containers from our restaurants. We’ve made the switch from plastic to laminated paper packaging for our Refresher Towels, allowing us to reduce our plastic footprint by 38%. But that’s not all. And if you’ve noticed there are no balloons on your next visit, it’s all part of our efforts to reduce waste.

We support local

At Wimpy, we don’t just talk local; we source local, too. Our famous chips are made from proudly South African Herta & Van Der Plank cultivar potatoes, sourced from the Sandveld region. All our dairy is sourced from the Dairy Group, a manufacturer that’s equally as passionate about sustainability as they are about uplifting local farmers. As for our coffee beans? They’re roasted right here in Mzansi. Even our menu is local and is available in all 11 official languages.

Reach For A Dream

For more than 30 years, Reach For A Dream has been fulfilling the dreams of children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Since 2014, Wimpy has been a supporter of Slipper Day, which is Reach For A Dream's largest annual fundraiser. In 2022, Slipper Day netted over R8.3-million, R3.1 million of which was raised by Wimpy. We helped to fulfill 1 600 dreams for children with life-threatening illnesses, impacting over 6 400 people’s lives.

The Little Dreamers included Sibusiso Blangwe, a 10-year-old boy battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Through Slipper Day, we were able to gift him with a laptop to play games and do his homework. We also helped Simeshni Reddy, a 14-year-old-girl with Osteosarcoma who dreamt of receiving new clothes.
